I have a statistics degree from university in Thailand. I've recently moved to the US and I am legal to work here. I'm interested in an actuarial career but am not sure where to start. I've been out of university for a couple years and my GPA is less than 3.0. I'm wondering if i should study some college math courses here to refresh my knowledge or if i should just begin preparing for the exams. Will good test scores be more important than a somewhat low GPA? How many exams should one take before looking for a job? Thanks

Passing exams is a good place to start. Most places won't ask what your scores on the exams were so any score that is 6+ is a good score. If I were you, I'd look for job AND study for exam at the same time.

To back up what Ken said, if you can demonstrate the ability to pass exams (say, 2 or 3), your GPA will be much less important than that highlight.

Looking for a job and studying at the same time is a good idea.
