Is there anyone knowing how to find a intern in this field?
What qualification should I have to strive for the opptunity?
Thanks for your help
Sincerely,
Masu

You need a good GPA, good computer skills, good communication skills, and it helps a ton if you've already passed the first exam. Good luck.

Since you go to a college with an Actuarial Science Program it is expected that ISU is preparing you to pass the exams (which they do a great job of in my experience). Hence companies want you to have an exam passed since you are getting coursework that covers exam topics. Over the summer I did meet a few interns who had no exams but they didn't go to a school with a large actuarial science program or they were majoring in related fields and studying on their own and had sat for an exam. I have heard that for internships companies look for a 3.5 GPA or higher but if you bring strong skills in other areas it can probably be lower. A knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access is very helpful (MAT 283 at ISU really prepares you for industry use of excel) but be ready to answer a few questions on it in an interview if you put down strong Excel/Access Skills in your resume. These are from my experience in attending speeches on what recruiters look for and can vary from company to company so they should not be taken as fact you should send in your resume to as many companies as you can, the worst they can say is no.

Remember that we will have the Meet the Firms event on September 19, and all companies come to this event with the expectation of getting resumes from students who are interested in internships. Also, Illinois State students can have their resumes posted at the Actuarial Program web site. Actual files of resumes are password protected, but you can see the list of resumes here:
http://www.math.ilstu.edu/actuary/resumes.html
Employers do visit that web site. Also, ISU Career Center:
http://www.careercenter.ilstu.edu
has a databank of jobs and internships, so you should register with them. And if you subscribe to the listserv for Illinois State actuarial students (I try to make certain that all actuarial students at ISU are automatically subscribed, but if I miss anyone, just tell me), you will get announcements of new internships and jobs opportunities. Some advice about internships is here:
http://www.math.ilstu.edu/actuary/internships.html
about jobs here:
http://www.math.ilstu.edu/actuary/jobs.html
and about preparing a resume here:
http://www.math.ilstu.edu/actuary/resumeadvice.html
I hope this helps.
Yours,
Krzys' Ostaszewski
