i have just recently decided that i want to pursue a career as an actuary. i am 4 classes short of my math degree and i plan on taking (and hopefully passing) the first 2 exams by the time i graduate in march of 2007. i have been online quite a bit in the last few months looking at whatever i can find relating to actuarial careers and it seems like there are very few entry level jobs for actuaries where i live. i was wondering if anyone can tell me if they think it will be really tough to find an actuary job when i graduate in either san diego or orange counties? i really dont want to relocate because my wife has a great job and is working on getting her cpa. she wants to stay in southern california and refuses to go to la. any help, advice, etc. would be appreciated. thank you.

It will be a little harder and take longer to find one than if you were open to relocation, but with two exams you'll probably have no problem. Just keep at it, post your resume, and try to find an internship! It helps...a lot.

You can search the SOA directory by location. You might look through that.
