HI, guys,

It's very nice to meet you all here. This is my first thread:)

I'm planning to take exam M this November and gonna start my study soon.

I'm here to ask your suggestion about the study manual choosing. I've read through some related topics about the manual choosing and narrowed my choice into the following three:

ASM Study Manual for Exam M, 3rd Edition
Author: Abraham Weishaus, Ph.D., FSA, MAAA
Product Code: ASMM

ARCH-M Review Manual for the Fall 2006 SOA Course M Examination
Authors: Robin Cunningham, Ph.D, FSA, Nathan Hardiman, M.S., FSA
Product Code: ARCHM

S. Broverman Study Guide for SOA Exam M, Fall 2006 Edition
Author: Samuel A. Broverman, ASA, Ph.D.
Product Code: BROVM

Would you please give me some suggestions on it? I don't want to read the texts during my preparation, so a manual with a detailed explaination on concepts and good quantity/quality examples/samples would definietly be my best choice.

I really appreciate your words and thanks for your time.

I'm assuming you're going to take the new M this November (the one with the MLC and MFE components)?

I'm taking the MLC and MFE tests this coming May. I have the ASM manuals for both tests and the Actex 2006 edition for the old exam M. I love the combination of both because at times I feel like ASM is above my head so I'll use the Actex manual to compensate. But on the other hand ASM has plenty of practice problems and is VERY thorough which I also feel I need.

If I was starting out with this test again I'd read a chapter in the Actex manual first then read the chapter that corresponds to it in ASM and finish as many problems as possible to get a deeper understanding.

I've bought the DVD seminars from 2006 as well. I really enjoyed those too.

I am studying out of the ASM manuals but I would go with either Broverman's manual or Dr. Kryzsio's manual (if he has one) because both of them are here on the forum regularly to answer questions on the problems in their manuals.

Yes, I have a manual for MLC, it is indicated in every exercise for M I post at this forum, and you can get it from New England Actuarial Seminars, Actuarial Bookstore, or Slide Rule Books. I have written the life contingencies part, and Markov and Poisson processes part is written by Dr. Kubicka. But you already missed our MLC seminar ...

I didn't know if you had a manual or not because I was looking at my Spring 2007 Mad River Books catalog and it does not list your study manual but it does list two of your seminars.

Unfortunately, my FM and MLC manuals are not offered by Actex Mad River, only by New England Actuarial Seminars, Actuarial Bookstore and Slide Rule Books.
