I've taken a few study days off before - as long as there's no urgent project/task that needs to be completed during the day, a study day off was fine.
I did not take these days off until I'd demonstrated that I was indeed studying hard for these exams and I'd built up a track record of "satisfactory exam progress". I'd imagine that your employer would request the same. I'd feel more comfortable allowing a person who'd studied for and passed the last 2-3 exams he/she took as opposed to the person who's studying for their first exam.
Policies differ between companies, though. (Obviously.)

We can take out study time pretty much whenever we want and can study wherever we want. They do reserve the right to make you study at the office if they think you are taking advantage of the system, but I've never heard of it being done.
