Hi everyone,
I'm currently an engineer (have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, graudated in 2003) and want to pursue becoming an actuary because I do not enjoy my work. I've always had a knack for numbers and finance, and I've always enjoyed working with numbers. I have a strong math background from my engineering curriculum and always did well in my calculus classes. I really believe this is a field I would enjoy and could succeed at.
Can any of you give me any advice getting started? Obviously since I'm an engineer I don't have any experience as an actuary. I have done some homework and it seems that the consensus is for those changing careers is to take the first exam ASAP. I want to take Exam P in November. A couple of questions:
1) If I spend the next 3 months preparing, would that be enough time to prepare? Or am I unrealistic in expecting to be able to study for 3 months and pass the exam?
2) And what would be the best way to prepare? Old exams, study guides, etc.?
3) What are some good websites I can visit to find useful information for preparing?
Thanks in advance,
Joe
