Hi!
I am newbie here and am interested in knowing some answers to a few questions from my end. I have just started preparing for the FM (SOA2) exam.I was wondering whether the intervening time would be Ok to pass the test.
I have no prior experience in actaury related stuff.I hold a masters degree in aerospace engineering.I am planning to make a career shift into the actuarial field. How feasible is that??
Am I in for a rough time in this regime of jobs???
Please help out.

"Intervening"? You mean the time remaining from now until mid-November? It should be adequate time. Only way to really find out is to try. Also note that you must send your registration in to the SOA by September 24th.

Thanks Mr.Wat!!
I indeed was referring to the time from today and the day of the exam.I am going thru boverman and have almost finished the first chapter. I am planning to work through all the end of chapter problems in boverman.I donot know whether that is an advisable proposition.
Do you think it is a viable objective to intend to do all the end of chapter problems given that there are hardly 2 months left? Also, which is more important. Covering the entire syllabus of the exam or to be absolutely cocksure about whatever I study despite it not covering the whole syllabus???
Any answers are welcome given the paucity of information..........
Thank you.

Tachyon007,
I'm also in the same boat ... I'm almost through chapter 1 of Kellison. We need to get through roughly 9 chapters in 60 days. I figure 1.5 chapters every week should do, then spend two weeks doing sample exams.
Also, the rule of thumb I've read around here is 100 hours of prep for every hour of test. Well, FM is 2 hours so we need 200 hours. Well, that means around 4 hours a day, 6 days a week.
I guess it comes down to how much time per day can you invest.

If you stick to the plan of putting in 200 hours, you can get ready. And it is really worth trying. Don't forget to get the practice exercises on this forum.

Krzys' Ostaszewski
