There will still be 4 exams in the preliminary education. However, the upper level (everything after Exams P, FM, M & C) are going to change. Much of it will be conducted through modules. There will be 2 sets of modules, each having its own validation system associated with it, and 2 more Course 8 level exams (DP & CSP).
It's confusing now, but I regret to tell you that until October 27th at the earliest, there won't be any more details regarding how these modules or new exams will be implemented or how the overall design will look.

so is it still going to be 4 exams to be an associate?
Do the number of exams change every year? are they ever stable?

It hasn't been 4 exams to be an associate for a while. I've got 4 now - I need Course 5 & Course 6 (logistically speaking) to become an ASA.
The number of exams changes with each new system. Sure, it's stable a priori from year to year, but since we're in the middle of a pretty substantial overhaul, it's expected to be a little confusing in understanding how things work. Since you're a "high school student", you won't need to know about the current 8-exam system to FSA. Unfortunately, the system you'll be learning from hasn't been explicitly defined yet. You'll have to wait a couple months for the details.

I am a high school student but i plan on taking the exam p early next year. So if i pass exam p in the old system would it tranfer to the new system? or is it pointless for me to take it?

I think we're already in the new system, but exam credits generally transfer over.

The conversion is finished for the first 4 exams, they will not change next year. The "new system" began this past Spring for the first 4 exams. So the changes we are talking about do not affect you xboyangx, so don't worry, take exam P. Good luck.
