    position for prospective actuary

    Hi everyone,

I am a 4th year statistics student enrolled in the Co-op Study-Work program of my university. I am currently on the lookout for a work placement position that would, ideally, let me work alongside an actuary(ies) and help me decide whether this is the type of work I'd be interested in. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions as to where I could work, and in what type of position (given my qualifications) to achieve this goal? I haven't taken any actuarial exams yet but have taken many statistics, probability, and economics courses.

I'm asking because it looks as though I will need to be conducting an independent job search separate from the Co-op program and need help with knowing where to apply and what type of position to be proposing. For example, is there such a position as "actuarial assistant" for someone with my qualifications?

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thank you

You won't get a "work placement" position given your lack of exams. As an FYI: in Canada, 4 exams is a bare minimum to get considered, because there's few positions and a ton of candidates.

If you're still trying to figure out if this is the career for you, you really want to go somewhere and ask questions in-person. If it is, then as a 4th year student you need to start pounding out the exams.
