    When can I expect employment

I am 27 I have no college experience, but I am very business minded and have an IQ of 147. I have befriended a 70ish year old retired actuary and through talking with him I'm very interested in becoming an actuary because college isn't a definite prerequisite. I have glanced over the "math" required and the test and have begun studying for exam P. I am confident that I can pass them as long as I put in the work. My question is without having college how much will that hinder me in finding a job and at which test completed should expect to gain employment in the actuarial field. Thank you for your time.

Yes, not having a college degree will hinder your efforts to find a job in this field. Period.

A degree wasn't necessary in the past from what I hear. However, it's an expectation nowadays.

You will be going up against people with exams under their belts and a degree. IQ has nothing to do with it. In fact, IQ means very little these days. Putting your IQ on your resume would probably indicate egomania; no one cares.

Have you ever been a manager? Have you ever taken business courses? Are you an entrepreneur? Why do you believe yourself to be business-minded? Experience in business might assist you.

From what I understand, most people start looking for employment (with a degree) with two exams under their belts, and the ones that try to distinguish themsleves have 3 or 4. Again, these people have degrees. You may not need one, but after exam P, you might think differently. Not that it's difficult information to understand and practice. You'll just begin to realize that you only cut your chances when you don't have a degree. You might even benefit quite a bit from a degree.

Why don't you see about taking classes while studying for exam P? It might help you.
