    What to do?

I have graduated this past December and as of now unofficially passed the first exam. I am planning to study this upcoming March and April and sit for Exam FM this Spring. Now the problem arises on what I do in the mean time. My GPA from Texas A&M University is rather weak (2.617 cumulative, 2.4x math gpa, and a 2.85 for my last 60 hours.) I know my GPA is weak but at the time I did not know what I wanted to do. I came to have a fondness for statistics during my last year at school which led to a 3.10 gpa for my last 30 hours. I started looking at what I could do with my degree and an actuarial career caught my attention. I am assuming it will be tough for me to get a job coming straight out, so would you recommend me getting an internship? Signing with a recruiter? Applying for full-time?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

You'll need to pass another exam or two and make sure you've completed your VEE requirements in order to overcome the GPA. For many companies, even your 3.10 would not pass the initial resume screening. There are plenty of positions open but it is very competitive. If this is really what you want to do, keep studying.

    Good luck.

Trojanhorse, thanks for the information. Would you recommend in the mean time applying for internships for experience?

Another poster in a previous thread recommended working a claims job in an insurance company and then moving from that to an actuary position. So maybe you could find a claims job near you.
