Professor Broverman, for Question 5, August 22, should not the answer for Question c, part (i) read [.143,.616] for the 95% CI. Judging by the numbers you have on the left hand side of the confidence interval, I get the numbers I posted.

Also, for Question 12, October 10, why in the solution is Z multiplied by 8, and its complement by 10? Why isn't Z multiplied by 40, (1-Z) by 50? Am I missing something here?

And, for Question 14, October 24, you ask us to evaluate the first derivative at 3, yet in the solutions, you list the derivative evaluated at 2. Do you list only this value because the derivative at 3 (when we extrapolate) does in fact equal the derivative at 2?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much for all of your problems thus far, and I'm sure they will help come Monday.

    Godspeed,

Thanks for your comments. There were errors in
    the three questions you mentioned.

I have just corrected the confidence interval for the August 22
question and will post the corrected version shortly.
The error in the October 10 question was pointed out
to me a couple of weeks ago and a corrected version with
40 and 50 replacing 8 and 10 has been posted.
Also, the October 24 question should have asked
for the derivative at 2 (not 3). That correction has
    also been posted.

Thankas again, and good luck next week.

    Sam Broverman

December 26, 2005 (Boxing Day) Question

You can find the question at:
    http://www.sambroverman.com/dec26c.pdf

The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen (when good
King Wenceslas looked out, according to the Christmas Carol), the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients. "Boxing Day" is listed in the Canada Labour Code as a holiday,
and is celebrated in England, Australia and New Zealand, and other
Common wealth countries. The modern celebration of boxing day
involves frenzied shopping and the accumulation of boxes of
    items from post-Christmas sales.

I hope you had a wonderful first night of Hannukah or Christmas day
(or however else you may celebrate this season).
