Senior majoring in Mathematical Science at Florida Atlantic University. The reason I created this poll was because I heard that "People are dropping like flies from the actuarial profession", I assume this means people are getting jobs with 0-2 exams passed and quit once they realize how difficult exams #3-#9 are. I would assume that many of these people are non-math oriented or less math oriented(finance major,no offense), who lack that certain "mathematical maturity" that a junior/senior/graduate math major would possess but are smart enough to get past exams 1 or 2. So to test my hypothese I would like to get an idea of the proportion of people attempting this profession. A better question might be how many math major's gave up on this profession, inorder to gauge the difficulty of the profession I embarking on. Any suggestions?

Actuarial science offered by Econ Dept., Queens College of CUNY

But I think Econ Dept. closed the acceptance on this major due to lack of faculties. But Math Dept. has an applied math with Econ. track, which is basically same or better selection of courses.

I would like to know how difficult is the most difficult exam in comparison to exam P. How do you quantify the difficulty of an exam anyway, by the average over a period of several years of the percentage of those who passed the exam in question, by the average number of hours put in by passing candidates? Are the concepts more difficult, is there more information/knowledge required for the exam, a combination of the two, or less time to do more difficult/lengthy problems on the exam, or do family responsibilities, boredom, or the burden of years of challenging exams take their toll?

I'm the one who is an outsider wants to enter this professional field. My undergraduate was microbiology pharmacy (non-USA) and MBA with finance concentration (US degree). I'm currently not working in actuary fields but I believe I will continue to study until I become a FSA.

Primary Major was computer software engineering, which is what I picked above.

But I also have a degree in Quantitative Sciences which is a math/stat combined degree.

Both at the University of Florida

I was an engineering student, got admission in Textile engineering..

But then switched career for being enrolled as an actuarial trainee in government's Actuarial Training Scheme program.
