Hello Everyone,
My name is Linel and I live in NYC. I am a recent graduate from college with a degree in Management of Info. Systems. I currently have an entry level Administrative job.
All my life I have loved Math and never knew how to apply it as a career. Until recently, a friend and Professor suggested that I become an actuary. After I learned that Actuarial work existed, I did some research about what it is, what kind of job I will have as an Actuary and what requirements I will have to fulfill, I learned to love it and am very very interested in having this as a career. I am currently studying for the first exam and applying to get my MS in Mathematics. However, I am concerned about one thing: getting a job. I live in NYC and due to family/responsibilities I cannot relocate. I have looked at the job postings and do not see many for jobs located in NYC. I am worried about not finding a job in the future. Does anyone know what the market rate is like for Actuarial jobs in NYC? Also, I wanted to know if it is necessary to have Actuarial experience to get a job? Will I need to get an internship or can I get an entry level position doing Actuarial work? I know that I would need to pass at least 2 - 3 exams before I look for a job. But can anyone tell me how do people usually get an Actuarial job, by having an internship or by starting off in an entry-position?
I would appreciate any comments/advice. I have seen the forums on this website and know that everyone is very helpful. In advance, thank you all for reading this, I greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
Linel
