Hi there, i am high school student in the UK now. I am interested in studying to become an actuary. But i found out that there are two types of actuarial courses in uni. So i basically wanted to know what's the difference between actuarial science and actuarial maths? I checked through the forum and have not really found the answers i wanted. I am studying in the UK if that helps.

Thanks for any form replies.

Actuarial Science is probably the degree program while Actuarial Mathematics is the study of contingent payments (life insurance/anuities) covered on the former course 3 and the now course M(?).

Both are actually degree programs, that's why i got a little confused. I haven't started uni yet so i have no idea what course M is. Sorry. Check this website out; this website shows the courses available in the Universities. I just want to know more about the course before i applied to do them.

website: http://search.ucas.co.uk/cgi-bin/hsrun/search/search/StateId/Coop7oWJyHmPYWkCcWW4KO4-Ck_ou-4OIf/HAHTpage/search.HsKeywordSearch.whereNext?query=7&word=ACTUARIAL

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. what does actuarial studies involve?

It looks like all the same programs - just that they're called different things by different universities. I'm sure you could compare the descriptions of each course and try and figure out by the wording what's different and what's the same.
