View Full Version : How to get a non-local (out of state) job?

July 22nd 2009, 12:30 AM

I live a few hundred miles from the nearest practicing actuary. I know that most companies either let out-of-state candidates sink to the bottom of their list or will not consider them at all. Does anyone who has had success finding a job out of state have a few tips for me (besides moving first or lying to my potential employers about my current residence)?

Also, it is considered inappropriate to contact potential employers directly these days, right? I appreciate the ability to post for a million jobs online through third-party application processes, but when pursuing a career with the employer of your dreams, it's nice to be able to show that you are especially interested in their company.

Good luck to anyone who happens to be in a similar situation!
