Hi all,

I have a question about question #5 from the May 2000 SoA Exam,

Course 1 under May 2000

In the solutions it says that it's given that f(t1, t2) = 2/L^2

I don't understand where that came from...

Can someone help me out?

Since the distribution is uniform, we can calculate f(t1,t2) as 1/area of region. the shaded region is 1/2 of the L x L square. hence the area of the region equals .5*L^2.

We need to find 1/area so this is where the 2/L^2 comes from
[1/(.5L^2) = 2/L^2]

Just remember that the joint density of a uniform distribution can be calculated as 1/area of region.
