Why are only texas instruments allowed?

Why wouldnt you be allowed to bring in a dinky scientific calculator with no memory capabilities or extra features??

Because the SOA has an approved list of calculators with a finite size. If every scientific calculator were approved, how would proctors determine which ones were truly dinky and which ones looked dinky but in fact had 32KB of memory with which to store formulas and such?

As such, there's a finite set of calculators on the approved list. If you want to know why they're all Texas Instruments, contact the SOA and maybe they'll answer. If they don't, the short answer "because we said so" is the answer, period.
