I have found these two topics on an ASM practice exam and haven't seen it on any SOA exam that is published or in my study material. Is it part of our exam P syllabus and therefore fair game?

Dear satech:

Variance and covariance are clearly on the syllabus, so by implication it is possible that variance/covariance matrix could be used. Order statistics are specifically listed as a topic in the official syllabus published by the SOA and CAS. You can find that syllabus in the hard copy catalog or download it from the SOA or CAS web sites.

The practice exam you are referring to is intentionally difficult, meant to challenge you so that you will be ready for the exam. Good luck on the exam.

Yours,
Krzys' Ostaszewski
