    Registering for Exam P

Do you have to register as soa or cas before taking the first exam? I don't know what type of actuary I want to be... does that matter? I know the CBT exam P/1 fee is $200, does that include registration with SOA or CAS or do u have to register with one of them and pay their membership fee on top of that?
I went to prometric or whatever website and pretended like I was registering and it seems like I need to register SOA or CAS before hand :-/ I'm just a little unclear...

I don't remember about when to register with SOA/CAS. Even if I recalled that, things might have changed. Last thing I knew was that they'll stop co-sponsoring the exams soon. Call SOA or CAS for clarification. As far as I know, registering at SOA or CAS is free.

Regarding your other question: No, you don't need to know what branch of actuary you'll pursue. You can always select "Undecided" whenever asked.
