Atlanta, GA (February 27, 2018) — The US economy added 200,000 jobs in January, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report released on Friday, February 2, 2018.

“Employment gains increased by 40,000 in January, up 40 percent from December’s employment gain of 140,000 jobs,” said Jay Rollins, owner of Actuary.com, a leading career website specializing in actuary job postings. “Comparatively, employment dropped from January 2017 when gains were recorded at 256,000 jobs.”

Unemployment in January remained at 4.1 percent for the fourth consecutive month, while the number of unemployed persons reached 6.7 million. Job gains for the month occurred in construction, food services and drinking places, health care, and manufacturing.
