Growing together.Optum Advisory Services is seeking a Senior Director of Provider Actuarial Services to lead strategic actuarial initiatives for healthcare providers and health systems. This role blends actuarial leadership with advanced analytics, data science, and AI to support value based care and risk based arrangements.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and develop a team of actuaries and analytics professionals
- Design and implement provider focused actuarial models and advisory solutions
- Develop strategies for risk adjustment, capitation, and value based contracting
- Oversee actuarial forecasting and performance tracking for Medicare ACO programs (ACO REACH, MSSP)
- Partner with senior executives and clients to drive data informed decisions
- Provide thought leadership on Value Based Care (VBC) programs
- Advanced Analytics & AI
- Integrate data science and AI into actuarial processes
- Apply machine learning and predictive modeling to risk and trend analysis
- Lead development of advanced forecasting models using large healthcare datasets
- Champion innovation in actuarial methodologies and tools
- Client Engagement & Advisory
- Act as a trusted advisor to risk taking provider organizations
- Analyze claims and revenue data from multiple sources
- Translate complex actuarial findings for executive level audiences
- Present insights and recommendations clearly and effectively
- Operational Excellence
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and actuarial standards
- Manage budgets, timelines, and resources across multiple initiatives

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
- ASA or FSA designation
- 10+ years of healthcare actuarial experience
- 5+ years of people leadership and project management experience
- Hands-on experience with data science and AI applications (e.g., ML, predictive modeling, NLP)
- Deep expertise in provider contracting and risk arrangements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare consulting experience, especially in payer-provider partnerships
- Knowledge of Government Programs, Medicare Advantage, CMS ACO/APMs, and VBC modeling
- Deep understanding of:
- Healthcare economics
- Provider reimbursement models
- Regulatory environment
- Familiarity with big data technologies and advanced visualization tools
- Demonstrated executive level communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated solid business and financial acumen

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 to $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
