Milliman’s Boise, Idaho, Employee Benefits Practice has an opening for a part-time or full-time actuary with an ASA designation to work primarily in the area of health and group benefits consulting. Position may include analyzing and projecting health care claims, pricing health and welfare plan benefit options, analyzing healthcare provider proposals and renewals, drafting employee communications, and communicating results to clients.

The Boise Employee Benefits practice was established over 20 years ago. Milliman consultants offer highly effective solutions in the retirement, healthcare, compensation, and employee communication arenas.

Role

You will:
  • Review, organize, and analyze statistical data
  • Develop and utilize actuarial models
  • Analyze healthcare costs and utilization data
  • Prepare cost estimates for various benefit options
  • Analyze vendor renewals
  • Review vendor contracts
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting as needed
  • Provide direction and training to actuarial analysts and have direct client contact
  • Work on retiree healthcare valuations
  • Manage client relationships and business development
  • Manage multiple consulting projects and budgets
  • Prepare and present client materials

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)
  • Five years industry experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong technical ability and organizational skills

Desired:
  • Experience with general benefits and actuarial consulting
  • Experience with financial management of client relationship
  • Project management skills, including task delegation and follow-up
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment where the client is always first

Location

This position will be based out of the Milliman office in Boise, Idaho. Boise, also known as the City of Trees, has been ranked number one on Livability.com's Top 100 places to live for 2019. Milliman is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all our employees. Due to precautions related to COVID-19, most Boise personnel are working remotely on a temporary basis. Applicants must be willing to work onsite in the Milliman office starting in January 2022. A hybrid (partial days in and out of the office) work arrangement may be considered.
