The Company
Based in Minneapolis, Ameriprise Financial is a leading financial planning company with approximately 10,000 financial advisors and registered representatives. Ameriprise provides its clients with diverse proprietary products which include insurance, annuities, mutual funds, certificates of deposit and other financial services and related products through the company's primary distribution channel, the financial advisor network. Third party products are also offered through the financial advisor network to meet core client needs. Ameriprise Financial offers international investment management products and services through Threadneedle Investments in the U.K.

The five operating segments of Ameriprise are: Advice & Wealth Management, Asset Management, Annuities, Protection, and Corporate & Other.
The Advice & Wealth Management segment provides financial planning and advice, as well as full service brokerage and banking services, primarily to retail clients, through the company's affiliated financial advisors who offer a full range of products to clients.
The Asset Management segment provides investment advice and investment products to retail and institutional clients. Domestic U.S. retail investment products are distributed through the Advice & Wealth Management segment as well as third party distributors.
The Annuities segment provides RiverSource variable and annuity products through the company’s affiliated financial advisors and only fixed annuity products to retail clients through the Advice & Wealth Management segment.
The Protection segment provides a variety of protection products to retail clients including life, disability income and property-casualty insurance. Life and disability income products are offered exclusively to the clients of affiliated Ameriprise financial advisors.
The Corporate & Other segment consists of net investment income on corporate level assets, including excess capital held in RiverSource Life and other unallocated equity and other revenues from various investments as well as unallocated corporate expenses.
