As an international life insurance, pension and investment group based in the Netherlands, AEGON N.V. has businesses in over 20 markets in the Americas, Europe and Asia. AEGON was formed by the merger of two Dutch companies in 1983 – Ennia, a stock company, and AGO, a mutual company. Since its founding, AEGON has emerged as an international insurance group with a major presence in five key countries – the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Hungary and Spain, as well as operations in many other countries.
The AEGON USA operations were established in 1989 via the consolidation of Life Investors, Monumental Corporation and National Old Line.

Company History
Monumental Life Insurance Company, founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1858 as a life and fire insurance company, is one of the oldest, largest and most respected life insurance organizations in the United States. Shortly after the Civil War, the company refocused its efforts and assets to become primarily a life and health insurance company. We provide life and supplemental health insurance products, such as accident and cancer insurance, and value-added services to meet the traditional insurance, protection and financial security needs, such as final expenses, income and mortgage replacement and education and retirement funding, of America’s middle income consumers. Monumental is a division of AEGON USA and is owned by AEGON N.V.
